Who we are
Takexi puts a taxi request in front of licensed local taxi drivers in the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact privacy@takexi.co.uk.
Riding without an account
You can request a taxi without an account. In that case we hold your pickup location for that request, an anonymous request reference kept on your device, and the request's own history. No name, email or phone number is required from riders.
What we hold
Riders: pickup location for the request you started, requestlifecycle records (requested, accepted, picked up, closed, cancelled), messages you send to your driver during that pickup, support messages, and — only if you choose to create an account — your email address and any name or phone you enter.Drivers: your phone number for sign-in and verification, your name, vehicle plate, make, model and photo, driving, taxi and vehicle licence numbers and expiry dates, insurance details, the licensing authority you name, your application and review messages, your live location while you are online, the requests you accept, driver chat messages and support messages. Both: device notification tokens where you allow notifications, and security and audit records of significant actions.
Why we use it (and our lawful basis)
To create a request, show it to eligible drivers and get a driver to your pickup point — necessary to perform the service you asked for (contract), and our legitimate interest in operating the service for anonymous riders who have no account with us.To sign drivers in and verify their phone number, and to check licensing and eligibility — contract with the driver, and our legitimate interest and the public interest in only dispatching lawfully licensed, taximeter-equipped taxis. To carry rider–driver pickup messages and support conversations — contract and our legitimate interest in resolving problems and keeping people safe.To keep audit and security records, prevent misuse and defend claims — our legitimate interest in the security and integrity of the service, and legal obligations where they apply.Device location is read on your device only after your operating system permission, and notifications are sent only if you allow them; you can withdraw either permission at any time in your device settings.
Location
Your device location is read when you start a request, and a driver's location is read while they are online and available or on their way to you. We use it only to create the request, show waiting requests to eligible drivers, get the driver to your exact pickup point, and show pickup progress and arrival. We never substitute an approximate or example location, and if we cannot get a real fix we say so instead of guessing.Your exact pickup point is visible to the driver who accepts your request, and to our authorised staff for support, safety and audit. It is not shown to other riders, to drivers who have not accepted your request, or on any public page. Live sharing between you and your driver ends when the pickup is complete — Takexi does not track the journey after you are in the taxi.We do not use location for advertising, profiling or unrelated analytics, and we do not sell it.
Phone numbers are never swapped
Riders and drivers talk through in-app messaging only. A driver's phone number is sign-in and verification data; a rider is never shown it, and a driver is never shown a rider's. Phone numbers are not placed in messages, notifications or the screens each side sees. Riders see the vehicle — plate and photo — not the person's private details.
Who else processes it
We use service providers who necessarily handle some of this data on our behalf: our hosting, database and authentication platform; an SMS verification provider for driver sign-in codes; push notification services operated by Apple and Google; map and navigation services (Mapbox, and Apple or Google Maps if you launch navigation); and error and performance monitoring. Opening navigation hands the pickup coordinates to your chosen maps app. We do not sell personal data or share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
Request records, including the pickup point, and audit and security records are kept for as long as they are needed for support, safety, dispute handling and licensing enquiries. A driver's last known map position is cleared automatically once they go offline or stop being seen. Driver sign-in code attempt logs are kept for a short, bounded period for anti-abuse purposes only. Service monitoring records are deleted automatically after 30 to 90 days. Notification tokens are released when you sign out or delete your account. We do not keep personal data indefinitely for no reason; where we cannot yet state a fixed period we keep data only as long as the purpose above genuinely requires.
Deleting your account
If you have an account — rider or driver — you can delete it in the app from Account → Delete Account. You can also ask us to delete it at takexi.co.uk/delete-account. Deletion removes your sign-in account, your profile details, your notification registrations and your last known position. It cannot be started while you have a live request or pickup. Some records are lawfully kept afterwards, separated from any live account: a driver's licensing, eligibility and application-outcome history for licensing, safety and audit purposes; request lifecycle and audit records, with your account no longer attached; and any active support restriction, so it cannot be avoided by deleting and starting again. Retained records are not used to run a profile of you and are not used for any unrelated purpose. Erasure is not absolute — we delete what we can and restrict the rest.If you ride without an account there is no account to delete. To ask about the data held against a specific request, contact us with the request reference shown on your screen.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where we rely on your permission — location and notifications — you can withdraw it in your device settings. Contact privacy@takexi.co.uk. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
